Three to five inches of snow was anticipated to fall Saturday within the area primarily alongside and south of Interstate 80, climate officers stated in a Winter Climate Advisory.
The advisory is in effect until 3 a.m. Sunday and covers northern Illinois and Northwest Indiana.
Officials cautioned of slippery street circumstances and restricted visibility on roadways. There will probably be durations of light to average snowfall, which was expected to develop northeasterly throughout the world via Saturday, truly fizzling out in the night hours, officers stated.
As of 10 a.m. Saturday, snow had started to fall in some locations and temperatures registered at 32 degrees.
Earlier, as much as nine inches have been anticipated for the southwest part of Illinois.
